Jingle is ASFA certified

Tommy and Maddie’s daughter, Jingle, earned her ASFA certification this past weekend. To be certified, Jingle had to chase the lure with another dog. The “other dog” she ran with was her dad, Tommy! It was quite the site to see father and daughter chasing the lure — I would have to say my favorite moment was when chasing the lure “clicked” in Jingle’s mind, and she put her ears back and flew past her dad to get the bunnies! Congratulations to Jingle and her owners, and I look forward to seeing you in the field!

Little Bob (Marjani The Price Is Right) became Marjani’s first home-bred champion! Bob (or Bobbles, or Bobaloooo, as he is known by his friends) will now take some time to grow up and fill out before coming back to the ring for his Grand Championship. Go BOB!

Tommy-Always the Bridesmaid

Tommy attended many shows this month, and gathered many Select Dog awards (hence, “always the bridesmaid, never the bride”). He is back at home, putting on some weight, and will reappear later this year!

In the meantime – lookout – his son Bob (Marjani The Price is Right) is coming out for some shows!!

It was a great weekend for the Marjani basenjis and miniature dachshund. Jazz completed her UKC championship title, Bob and Tommy are close to completing theirs, and Gloria was Group 1 in the scenthound group at each of the 4 shows – Anna and Isaiah took turns showing her to this placement. Anna and Isaiah also showed in Junior Showmanship and did a fabulous job!

Bob, Jazz and Gayle had a marvelous weekend at the dog shows in Millwood, VA. After a slow start on Friday, Jazz went Winners Bitch and Best of Winners on Saturday for a 4 point major. Gayle was Winners Bitch on Sunday. And Bob was Winners Dog for a 4 point major on Saturday, AND Winners Dog and Best of Winners on Sunday for another 4 points. All of this over a weekend with miserable weather – 45 degrees, windy and raining. Yippeeeee!

Earthdog!

Gloria tried her paw today in an Earthdog trial. What is earthdog? It’s where a dog runs underground to find the quarry (rats) at the end. Once they find the rats, who are safe in a cage, and behind big dowels to make sure they are extra safe, the dog has to bark, dig, whine, “work” the rats for 30 seconds. This is open to Terriers and Dachshunds. Well, at the start, Gloria had no intention of going into a dark, muddy, icky hole. The judge let me show her WHY she should go in the hole – I showed her the rats. Slowly her brain clicked and then she wanted the rats. They smelled, and they were furry critters! BARK BARK BARK So we went back to the den opening, and Gloria again said, “no thanks.” So the kind judge, to help Gloria understand, moved the rats closer to her. Her brain clicked again, and she ran into the den. So we tried the third time – and had her run from the start to the end and she got it. She didn’t “pass” her intro to quarry practice, and that’s ok. She was really starting to get the hang of what we were asking of her. I think with a few more practices… she will become an underground terror. As Gloria says “If your face isn’t muddy, then you haven’t really been earthdoggin’!”

UKC – for the first time

For the first time, I went and showed at a UKC conformation event. Gloria went Best of Breed and Group1 (Scenthound) at both shows. And Tommy went Best of Breed and took a Group 1 at one show. Gloria made people laugh when she rolled over in the ring, asking for a belly rub. It was a good day!

Tommy earns his QC!

I am pleased to announce that Tommy earned is Qualified Courser certificate today. He stayed on the lure and ran quite nicely. Thank you, Jane, for letting Jules run with Tommy. Having a QC means the next time we go to a lure coursing trial, he can run in the open class!

Bob and Jazz, again…

Another day, another dog show….
Bob was WD and BW today again. I’m so pleased with this boy, he is trying to figure out what this “show stuff” is all about, why all these dogs are around, and why he is being asked to stand in a line with all of them. So much for his little brain to absorb.
Jazz was RB today. She had a “blonde moment” on the table, and could not remember for the life of her what she was supposed to be doing. And right before going into the ring, she was showing off to the world how well she could move on a loose lead. I guess she used up all her brains and obedience before ring time.
